Step by Step Refinishing Process

Bathtub and surrounding areas prepped to be refinished.

A Chemical clean

The first step starts with using a 2 step cleaning process using industrial cleaners to help rid the original bathtub of any soap scum, rust or grime.

Etching the surface

Once the tub has been thoroughly cleaned, an etching solution is applied on the tub for 5-10 minutes. Then rinsed off. This will remove all the shine from the original surface creating a dull and  feel. This allows the new finish to bond firmly to the original surface.

Drying and Wrapping

This next step involves using an air hose and turbine to thoroughly dry the areas around the tub. Ensuring no water is left on the surface. Once completely dried, the technician will wrap the areas surrounding the tub with flexible plastic to ensure no "over spray" occurs.

Final prep and Sterilizing

At this time the technician will fill any chips or rough areas with a liquid metal filler. Ensuring a nice smooth finish. The tub is then rubbed down with an Alcohol to clean the tub of any remaining grease or oil. Then a Bonding Agent in applied to assist in the new finish bonding to the existing tub.

Priming and Painting

The tub is now ready to prime.  Depending on the original color of the tub, the technician applies  2-3 even layers of Primer. On top of that is 3 even coats of high gloss Acrylic Polymer white paint. Restoring the tub to its original look of a nice shiny finish.

Drying and caulking

After the last coat of paint is applied. The technician will proceed to remove the protective plastic wrap and replace the silicone around the tub. The finish should be allowed to dry for 24 hours.  Ensuring that no one touches the finish and no water drips on the surface. Once the 24 hour drying process is completed you're free to use your tub as normal. Always follow the directions left by the technician for a long lasting finish on your newly resurfaced bathtub.
